After getting a phone call from my former music teacher, I submitted my choreography reel and received the offer to choreograph Frozen the Broadway Musical at Indian Hill High School in Cincinnati Ohio. I had not choreographed a musical since I was a senior in high school. As a Disney lover and dance lover, I was over-the-moon about this opportunity.
After winning a competition, Indian Hill was chosen to be the first high school in Ohio to receive the rights from Disney to put on this production. One exciting feature for me was taking the role of Sven, a role usually played by puppeteers, and turning her into a dancing reindeer. The school's creative team wanted to take their opportunity as one of the first high school's in the nation to put on Frozen, to show future high school's that they can take a different route with Sven than using a puppet. This gives a talented dancer an opportunity to have a lead role and work on their acting abilities. It also is an alternate idea for schools who may not have the budget to spend on a big intricate puppet.
I loved finding different ways to throw in a leap or a kick or something dancey into Svens track to wow the audience in a way they weren't prepared for!
